Stack and Tilt Golf Swing

The stack and tilt golf swing has been talked about for years because of the popular golfers who have adopted the technique. Professional Golfers' Association tour players, champions and beginners alike seem to favor this type of swing.

One thing that made the stack and tilt popular is it's catchy name. It is easily recalled by people who are trying to learn it and those who teach the technique. However, it does not literally mean what it's named after. Basically, it's not just stacking and tilting in the literal sense.

When you do the stack, what they mean is to hold the club back but instead of putting your weight to the right side as you would normally do, you swing the club without switching your body weight to the other side. Stacking here means layering until it is brought above your head like what you do when piling up books. When doing this, the club is closely directed to the position of the golf ball reducing inconsistent results compared with the normal golf swing where you have to sway away from the ball. With this the creators of the technique successfully lessens the sway.

stack and tilt

Although the stack and tilt golf swing has been adopted by many (even the pros) it's accuracy has been debated. Some say that it is not an effective swing and that it is not worthy of the hype that it has been receiving. According to some golfers who reviewed the technique it is flawed in two ways.

First, the stack and tilt golf swing requires you to have a whole lot of muscle memory which is nearly implausible to recall. In order to do this, you have to think and control a group of muscle movements. Remember that in sports it is all about feeling every move and not overcalculating or overthinking about it because this is where you're likely to fail.

Second, by not switching your weight to the other side and reverse pivoting when you swing the club it becomes more difficult to hit the ball consistently. The stack and tilt golf swing also overrides the basic principles of golfing that you learned like the use of gravity and centrifugal force to hit the ball.

In conclusion, the stack and tilt golf swing may look promising with its clever and catchy name but it has failed to live up to the attention it has been given.
